Michael's Philosophy
Prejudice is challenged when we fight for our rights, though even more so, when we act as though we already have them. The genius of human beings such as Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and Gandhi is that in addition to their non-violent, peaceful methods of confronting discrimination, they also acted with such dignity and diplomacy that it became impossible for the oppressors to deny them their humanity.
Consider what we are leaving to the next generation. Which lessons are we leaving to them? What wisdom shall they inherit from us? What legacies are being passed down? Who is responsible for which of these that we choose to bequeath? Doesn't it begin with each of us?
We can be most effective as a human race when we speak with one voice. In order to do so, we must end the petty divisions that exist in our own backyards. Consider the vastness of your backyard. What exists there? If we're all interconnected, then aren't we all of one family? A strong, supportive family is built through unification – loving ourselves, loving each other, and allowing that love to transcend all boundaries.
Every human being has a chance to take a stand on behalf of the human race at any moment. Be yourself. Live with dignity. Show others through your own example that diversity is an asset, that equality is a right, and that we are all united by a common humanity.
